Bishop Amma

Mrs. R. Vasanthi Annammal, the wife of the Bishop, is President of the Women’s Fellowship of the Diocese and an officer of the Diocesan Council.

A retired Social Science teacher, she served in different schools of the Diocese for about three decades. When the Bishop assumed his office, she, as Bishop Amma, assumed hers as President of the Women’s Fellowship of the Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.

She serves as a compassionate mother to the Diocese’s 21 pre-schools, which she manages, and she is the Correspondent of the CSI Methodist Girls Higher Secondary School, Trichy, and the CSI Methodist Nursery & Primary School, Woraiyur.

With great care and concern she manages the homes for the aged. With a dedicated heart for marginalised women, she leads women’s empowerment projects — training in tailoring, wine making and more — through the Vocational Training Centres at Dharapuram and Anamalai, and she plans to open such a centre at Karur.

She holds conferences for the women of the congregations at the level of the District Church Councils and of the Diocese, to nurture their faith and unity and the spirit of standing with the underprivileged among them.

She accompanies the Bishop on all his visits to the churches of the Diocese and contributes in many ways. Beyond all these, she is a loving mother and grandmother in her family.
