The story of St. Peter’s Church
St. Peter’s Church, Sirkali, is part of the Christian heritage of the Mayiladuthurai region and of the Church of South India in the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese. Its story reflects the faith of local Christian families, the work of church leaders and the continuing commitment to provide a spiritual home for worship, fellowship and service.
Christian Mission in the Sirkali Region
Sirkali is an important town in the Mayiladuthurai region, with a long history of Christian mission and community life. The congregation belongs to the wider missionary movement that served the coastal and delta districts of Tamil Nadu. Over time, local Christians and church workers helped to sustain worship and nurture the congregation.
The church’s development forms part of the broader history of mission, education and pastoral service in the region. The dedication of clergy, church members and supporters helped to establish a continuing place for Christian worship and fellowship in Sirkali.
The Formation and Development of the Pastorate
In the twenty-first century, the congregation took important steps to strengthen its church life and organisation. A milestone came on 21 February 2016 in connection with the development of the church and the ministry of Rev. K. V. Paulraj. This period marked an important stage in the congregation’s continuing journey.
On 1 November 2012, the Sirkali area entered a new phase of pastoral organisation with the announcement of a trial pastorate under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran. The congregation continued to develop through worship, pastoral care and the commitment of its members.
Church Building and Renewal
Further milestones in the church’s development came between 2018 and 2022. Immanuel Church was established in the Sirkali area on 3 December 2018, and further church-development initiatives followed in 2019. On 10 March 2021, a further milestone was marked in connection with St. Peter’s Church, and on 10 January 2022 work was undertaken towards a new church building.
These developments reflect the congregation’s desire to provide suitable and welcoming spaces for worship, prayer and fellowship. They also show the cooperation of church members, ministers and diocesan leadership in strengthening Christian witness in the locality.
A Growing Community of Faith
The congregation’s life continues to be sustained by worship, community participation and the guidance of its pastor and church leaders. St. Peter’s Church remains a place where families gather in prayer, share fellowship and pass on the Christian faith to younger generations.
A Continuing Witness of Christ’s Love
The story of St. Peter’s Church, Sirkali, is one of faith, perseverance and renewal. It honours the church leaders, clergy, workers and families whose contributions have helped to nurture Christian life in the region. As part of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese, the congregation continues to look to the future with hope, seeking to serve its neighbours with compassion and grace.
