The story of Schwartz Nursery and Primary School
Schwartz Nursery and Primary School was established on 1 June 1992 in memory of the missionary Rev. Christian Friedrich Schwartz. The school began with 26 children and two teachers, with a vision of providing meaningful education to children and helping them overcome the barriers created by ignorance and social disadvantage.
Establishment and Vision
The initiative was shaped by a concern for children from economically weaker backgrounds and for those who needed access to affordable, quality education. The school sought to provide a supportive learning environment that would help children develop knowledge, confidence and the foundations for a better future.
Growth and Development
Over the years, the school has developed into an institution serving children at the nursery and primary levels. By its thirtieth year, it had contributed to the education of students who went on to become doctors, engineers and teachers, and it continues to nurture young learners.
The school received recognition from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2004. It first functioned under the administration of Christ Church and, from 2017, came under the administration of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.
The school had a strength of 124 students, eight teachers and five non-teaching staff, a measure of its growth and its continuing educational service.
Educational Mission and Values
The school’s motto, “Arise, Shine and Serve”, expresses its commitment to an education that goes beyond classroom learning. It seeks to nurture children through knowledge, values and service, preparing them to become responsible individuals who can contribute positively to society.
A Continuing Commitment to Children
From its humble beginnings with 26 children and two teachers, Schwartz Nursery and Primary School has grown into an institution dedicated to the foundational education of young learners. Its journey reflects the Diocese’s commitment to making education accessible and meaningful, particularly for children who need supportive opportunities to learn and flourish.
Through its continued service at Teppakulam, the school upholds the educational vision associated with Rev. Christian Friedrich Schwartz and the wider mission of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.
