The story of Mudis Pastorate

Historical Beginnings

Mudis is one of the historic congregations in the Anamalai hill region of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese. The church began as a small place of worship in 1930, serving the Christian community in the hill settlement. The early development of the congregation is associated with the efforts of Rev. Philip, whose ministry helped to establish a place for Christian worship in the area.

Development of the Church

The original church continued to serve the congregation for several decades. In 1977, the church building was renovated through the efforts of Rev. William. On 2 October 1977, it was consecrated by Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Solomon Duraisamy and given the name “Christ the Lord Church”. This marked an important milestone in the life of the Mudis congregation and strengthened its place of worship and fellowship.

Renewal and Consecration

The church continued to be sustained by the faith and commitment of the people living and working in the surrounding estate communities. Contributions from plantation workers, the support of the Diocese and the generous participation of members enabled the congregation to undertake further renovation and renewal of the church building.

The renovated church was consecrated on 12 December 2021 by Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran, the then Bishop of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese. The occasion was a significant expression of the congregation’s gratitude, collective effort and continuing commitment to the worship and witness of the Church.

Continuing the Witness

From its beginnings as a small chapel in 1930 to its renewed place of worship in 2021, Mudis Church reflects the perseverance and faith of generations of Christians in the Anamalai hills. The CSI Mudis Pastorate continues its ministry through worship, prayer, fellowship and pastoral care, serving the local community as part of the wider mission of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.
