The story of P. K. Palayam Pastorate

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” — Psalm 126:3

The CSI P. K. Palayam Pastorate traces its Christian beginnings to the early twentieth century, when the Gospel was shared among families in the Perungurunaipalayam area, about 30 kilometres from Dharapuram. The growth of the Christian faith in the locality was closely connected with the missionary and evangelistic work carried out in the wider Dharapuram region.

Historical Background

The Christian message reached local residents, and those who came into contact with the faith began sharing it with their families and neighbours. Through personal witness, teaching and the support of missionary workers, a small Christian community gradually took shape. The work was sustained by local believers, who helped to establish regular worship and nurture the growing congregation.

The year 1913 was an important one in the development of the congregation. The events of that year, including the baptism of the early believers and the forming of a Christian community, became foundational to the church’s history. The congregation continued to grow, and the establishment of a place of worship in 1914 marked a significant milestone in its development.

The Christian witness then extended to the neighbouring settlements, as families and worshipping groups became part of the expanding congregational life. The pastorate’s history reflects the contribution of evangelists, teachers, pastors and local church members who served the community through worship, instruction, pastoral care and fellowship.

The congregation commemorated its centenary in 2013, marking one hundred years of Christian witness since the beginnings of 1913. The anniversary was an opportunity to remember the faith and service of earlier generations and to give thanks for the continuing growth of the church.

Over the years, successive ministers and church workers have contributed to the spiritual life and development of the pastorate.

Continuing Witness

Today, the CSI P. K. Palayam Pastorate continues its ministry through worship, evangelism, pastoral care and fellowship. Its history is a testimony to the faith of the early believers and the commitment of successive generations who have sustained Christian witness in the locality and its surrounding communities.

“Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other.”
