The story of Puliyur Pastorate

Early Development of the Congregation

The Christian congregation at Puliyur developed within the wider ministry of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese and its congregations in the Karur region. It has had links with neighbouring congregations, including Velliyanai and other nearby Christian communities. As the number of worshippers in the area grew, the need for a more organised congregation and regular pastoral care became increasingly important.

Formation and Pastoral Care

By 1985, Puliyur had developed as a distinct congregation receiving pastoral attention. Ministers serving the surrounding area contributed to the organisation of worship and the strengthening of congregational life. The church’s growth reflects the participation of local Christian families and the continuing support of the wider diocesan ministry.

Land and Church Building

A church building costing about ₹5,00,000 was constructed through donations and dedicated on 27 August 1989 by the former Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paulraj. In 1995, a bell tower was built and dedicated by the Bishop. The congregation, which began as a CSI congregation in 1985, developed further in the years that followed.

Further Development and Community Ministry

The congregation continued to develop its facilities and ministries over the following years, with further building work and improvements during the 1990s, including a milestone in 1995. These developments provided a more suitable setting for worship, fellowship and the church’s service to local families.

The pastorate’s wider ministry has included worship, pastoral care, Sunday School, women’s fellowship and community gatherings. Through these activities, the congregation has sought to nurture faith across generations and to strengthen relationships among Christian families in Puliyur and the surrounding area.

A Continuing Witness of Faith

From its development as a local congregation to the establishment of a permanent place of worship, CSI Puliyur Pastorate reflects the faith, commitment and shared service of its members. The congregation continues to gather for worship and fellowship and to sustain its Christian witness in the surrounding community.
