The history

The story of Thennilai Pastorate

Early Missionary Outreach

Christian witness in Thennilai and the surrounding villages developed through the wider Wesleyan Methodist mission in the Karur region. Missionaries and local Christian workers visited communities, supported worship and helped to establish a continuing Christian presence. Their work contributed to the growth of congregations and to the development of Christian fellowship in rural settlements.

Formation of the Pastorate

A major milestone came in 1993, when Thennilai was organised as a separate pastorate. The ministry served Thennilai and neighbouring villages, where Christian families gathered for worship and fellowship. A network of congregations and outstations across the area reflects the growth of the church’s rural ministry.

Congregational and Community Development

The pastorate’s work extended beyond regular worship to include pastoral care, Christian teaching and support for families in the surrounding communities. Church workers and local believers contributed to the development of congregational life, helping to maintain links among the villages served by the pastorate. Church facilities and ministry in the area continued to develop.

Pastoral Leadership

Successive ministers and church workers served in the Thennilai area, contributing to the pastorate’s worship, pastoral care and congregational development.

A Continuing Witness of Faith

The history of CSI Thennilai Pastorate reflects the growth of Christian faith and fellowship through missionary outreach, local leadership and the commitment of generations of worshippers. Through worship, Christian teaching and pastoral care across Thennilai and neighbouring villages, the pastorate continues its witness and service to the community.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship.”
Acts 2:42
