The story of Kannivadi Pastorate
“For we are God’s fellow workers.” — 1 Corinthians 3:9
The Christian congregation at Kannivadi developed within the wider missionary and pastoral work of the Dharapuram region. In its earlier years, Kannivadi was associated with the Mulanur pastorate. In 1955, it became a separate pastorate, marking an important stage in the organisation and growth of the local Christian community.
Historical Background
The growth of Christian witness in Kannivadi was supported by the ministry of missionaries, pastors and local believers. Through worship, pastoral care and congregational fellowship, the church served Christian families in Kannivadi and the neighbouring villages, whose congregations became part of this developing work.
The pastorate’s ministry extended beyond regular worship services. Church life included the encouragement of children and young people, Christian teaching, fellowship and community activities. Gatherings and programmes brought members together and strengthened the relationship between the church and the communities it served.
Education and the nurturing of children also formed part of the congregation’s wider contribution. Local educators and community members supported school-related activities and children’s development. These efforts reflect the church’s concern for faith formation and the well-being of younger generations.
Over time, the Kannivadi pastorate continued to serve its congregation and the surrounding communities through worship, spiritual guidance and service. Its history reflects the commitment of successive generations of church members and leaders who helped to sustain Christian witness in this part of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.
Continuing Witness
Today, the CSI Kannivadi Pastorate carries forward a heritage shaped by missionary endeavour, local commitment and congregational life. With gratitude for those who established and nurtured the church, the pastorate continues to strengthen faith, fellowship and service among the people of Kannivadi and its neighbouring communities.
“Let us not grow weary in doing what is right.”
