The story of Thiruthuraipoondi Pastorate

The history of the CSI Thiruthuraipoondi Pastorate is rooted in the Christian mission and the growth of a worshipping community in the region. The congregation’s story reflects the commitment of successive generations to sustain Christian worship, nurture fellowship and serve the surrounding community.

A Legacy of Faith and Service

The early development of the congregation is associated with the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society (WMMS). There has been a long-standing Christian presence in the area, and the church and its ministry developed gradually.

The Church Building and Its Development

An earlier church building served the congregation for many years. It measured about 18 feet by 50 feet and was later enlarged or renewed to meet the needs of the growing congregation. The year 1997 is linked with this phase of development.

Following damage and the need for better facilities, the congregation moved towards building a new church. The foundation stone of the new building was laid on 3 January 2019 by Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran, Bishop of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese.

Construction and Dedication of the New Church

Construction of the new church began on 25 August 2019. The new building was formally dedicated on 20 September 2020 by Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Chandrasekaran. This marked an important chapter in the life of the congregation, providing a renewed place for worship, fellowship and ministry.

A Continuing Witness

Today, the history of the CSI Thiruthuraipoondi Pastorate stands as a testimony to the faith, perseverance and collective effort of its members. Through changing times and the development of its church building, the congregation has continued its commitment to worship, Christian fellowship and service.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.”
