The story of Uppar Kallivalasu Pastorate

The CSI Uppar Kallivalasu Pastorate traces its beginnings to 1980, when the congregation was separated from the Chinnaputhur Pastorate, then part of the Dharapuram ecclesiastical region. This was an important step in organising and strengthening the Christian witness in Uppar Kallivalasu and its surrounding villages.

Historical Beginnings

In the early years, the ministry was supported by the leadership of the church and the wider Diocese. Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Solomon Duraisamy served in this period, as did several ministers, including Rev. Perinbam and Rev. Deva Pitchai. Other pastors who contributed to the development of the congregation over the years included Rev. Paul Manickam, Rev. Rajamanickam, Rev. Alex, Rev. Babu Alex, Rev. Ponnaraj, Rev. J. Durairaj, Rev. Gnanaponnaiyan, Rev. Rajendran and Rev. Shanthi.

Pastoral Ministry and Congregational Life

The pastorate’s ministry was nurtured through the dedicated service of pastors, circuit workers and local church members. Circuit agents, including Mr. Sundaram, Mr. Nallamuthu and Mr. Devaraj, also contributed to the pastoral and outreach work. Their efforts helped to sustain worship, fellowship and Christian instruction among the people of the area.

The congregational ministry has extended to several surrounding villages. The churches and worshipping communities of the pastorate include Muthur, Panappalayam, Kallivalasu and neighbouring village centres. Through these congregations, the pastorate has continued to provide opportunities for worship, spiritual nurture and fellowship.

Growth and Leadership

The pastorate has been strengthened by the commitment of its ministers and lay leaders. It has continued to grow through the participation of its congregations and the commitment of its members. The ministry reflects the shared contribution of successive pastors, church workers, office-bearers and families who have sustained the life and witness of the Church.

The Pastorate within the Diocese

Uppar Kallivalasu is now part of the Udumalpet ecclesiastical region of the CSI Tiruchirappalli–Thanjavur Diocese. This places the pastorate within the wider mission and ministry of the Diocese, while it continues to serve its local congregations and neighbouring communities.

From its establishment as a separate pastorate in 1980, the CSI Uppar Kallivalasu Pastorate has sought to remain steadfast in faith and service. It continues its journey through worship, pastoral care, fellowship and Christian witness, building on the commitment of the generations who have contributed to its growth.
